Married to My Work – Stop Breaking Promises, Prolong the Honeymoon and Keep Clients

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO/Director of PMR/CMBS Global

June is the month of promises…promises of longer days, vacation time away from the daily grind, romance. Traditionally, it is the favorite month for getting married, of promising each other the moon under a hot summer sun. January is reported to be the month for divorcing.

Unfortunately, promises easily made are also too often broken in life, love and business.

In times past, a person’s word was all it took to ‘seal the deal’. Legal documents were seldom necessary between friends and family and rarely even considered among those doing business. Your word and a handshake were all that were needed to buy and sell – even settle a dispute. But those days are far behind us and not only do people regularly promise one another more than they can deliver, it is becoming the acceptable norm to expect that promises will not be kept. Thankfully, there are still those in business who believe that promises made are worth keeping whenever possible, as much as possible. [Read more...]

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMO / Director of PMR / CMBS Global

Your story is your experience. Do you wonder why anyone would be interested in your story? After hearing how someone else hasWhy Your Story? endured and overcome a tragedy of immense proportions, do you wonder how your story could ever be interesting enough to cause others to pay money for it?

Have you ever had a problem that you could not solve on your own? Have you had a question that needed an answer – knowledge that you did not possess? Or how about a situation begging for action, when you were unsure of the next step to take? What did you do?

Though today many may still look to their faith, family, friends and trusted peers – more and more people are turning to the Search Engines for the answers and information they seek. By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO/Director of PMR/CMBS Global

I am bombarded daily with emails telling of how other people make six figures in a single year while working online -“Rags to Riches” stories, the results of an entrepreneurial spirit and the perfecting of marketing skills etc. But…are these stories really true? Is it possible to make six figures a year marketing online even in today’s market?

I wanted to take a closer look.

It took very little effort to find all kinds of articles with the words “Earn Six Figures”. Some of the page titles also included “working from home”, “as a freelance writer”, “from Internet Marketing” …you get the picture. But the one thing that they all seem to purport is the idea of a system or program for purchase. So, is it only possible to make good money if you are the one selling the program or the system? [One article actually offered “3 legit online jobs” leading me to wonder about the legitimacy of all the many others being promoted as ways to earn a living online.] [Read more...]

What Is The Best Approach To Blogging? How Having a Goal Helps You Blog More Effectively

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMO and Director of PMR / CMBS Global

To be truly effective when writing content for business blogging from the angle of teaching (as Marcus Sheridan suggests) we must remain approachable. No teacher is looked to as a resource or mentor unless those who need their help view them as approachable.

Bloggers should avoid writing as though ‘looking for a fight’ – this can cause the entire article to be written from a defensive voice. Instead, writing from our passion may invite debate, but it won’t invoke hostility toward our words, it will more likely engage and then provoke thought and possibly conversation. [Read more...]

How Do You Communicate and Market Your Online Business to the World Marketplace?

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO & Director of PMR for CMBS Global

Do you know how to market your business online? Do you know WHO your market really is? Do you communicate well with your market? Are you visible in the world marketplace?

Do questions like these make your head spin?

How you communicate and market your business is vital to your online success, but it need not make you dizzy. My hunch is that you are one of those entrepreneurs who realize the importance of communicating and marketing online – but have trouble finding the time to do it consistently and effectively. That may be GOOD news. I mean, if you are that busy – then you must be doing something right – right?

Unfortunately, small business owners are seldom too busy to give their needed attention to such an important aspect of their online enterprise because business is booming. More often than not, failure to communicate what they do and market what they offer to the world marketplace is simply a lack of organization and focus on their part. It may sound harsh, but your head may be spinning because you are in need of help and have ignored your need, thinking that you can do it all by yourself. [Read more...]

How To Avoid The Roller Coaster Effect, Survive The Ups and Downs and Enjoy The Ride!

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO & Director of PMR / CMBS Global

The ups and downs of the roller coaster rideI love a GREAT roller coaster! I can’t do the spinning rides at theme parks, but I really enjoy the roller coasters and the bigger the ‘ups and downs’ – the better. Whether it’s the thrill, the love of speed or the powerful feeling of conquering fear – whatever the reason – people love roller coasters, making them the world's most popular amusement park ride. And while they may make for an exciting day at the park, roller coaster rides in business are less than amusing and in fact, can be cause for failure.

Surviving The Ups and Downs

Every business goes through its ups and downs. Experiencing some highs and some lows are part of the forecast when it comes to the climate of any business today, but this can be particularly true for the small business owner. The little guys often find themselves waiting a long time to enjoy the ride of a consistently thriving business, eating an awful lot of dust, receiving little or no respect, getting pushed further and further toward the back of the line. Just as one must wait patiently in line to board any good roller coaster ride, being patient can also be key to surviving the ups and downs of small business ownership and like a great roller coaster experience, it will all be worthwhile, eventually. Unlike the line at the theme parks, in business, you can choose to simply maintain and hold your place in the line – or you can actually determine to advance to the front of that line. [Again, not recommended at theme parks!]

How Do I Write Copy For My Blogs?

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO & Director of PMR /CMBS Global

Have you ever just about driven yourself crazy with wondering, “How do I write copy for my blogs that will get noticed and speak to my target market?” Maybe you’ve even thought about hiring a copywriter, but figured, “How hard can it really be to write my own copy?” Like many other entrepreneurs, you probably wondered about the benefits compared with the costs and ultimately decided, “I can do that!”

"Paper, pen, glasses, cup of coffee"

So, how's that been working for you?

Content is really important, but consider this – strategy surpasses it as king! Why? Because even the best content, the most powerful combination of words, the most compelling copy imaginable will never be viewed and read unless you possess a clear strategy to get people to your blog in the first place. Right? You can write it…but it doesn’t guarantee that they will come. [Read more...]

One Simple Tool That Can Double Or Triple Your Contact List

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMO/CMBS Global   I’ve recently returned from an inspiring time in Orlando Florida, learning how to better market our clients – and our company, CMBS Global. The three-day event, hosted at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport by Suzanne Evans and her team, not only provided a bevy of tools and information [including one simple tool that has the potential to double or even triple your contact list] but great opportunities to network and actually hear the individual stories of other entrepreneurs in the industry, as well.

I can honestly say that while there is nothing totally new under the [marketing] sun, the speed at which technology is being developed to assist the online marketing industry is mind-boggling! So much is available to us each day – right at our fingertips – that it is difficult to keep up with the pace. With all of the choices, the question becomes how to best utilize it all.

As most of us know, to be effective in our efforts we must be DOING. Where it can get a bit tricky is staying on top of WHAT to do, HOW to do it – and WHEN!

It’s a given that to implement any great tool you must first learn how to use it…but in today’s business environment, by the time you get comfortable with one – something NEW and UNFAMILIAR can be in your “toolbox”, screaming for your immediate attention. Finding the time to learn a new skill required for the latest, most effective program can be nearly impossible when you are already up-to-your-eyeballs in building your online business. Are Your Marketing and Advertising Integrated for Maximum Effect?

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO/CMBS Global

What does the term “integrated advertising and marketing” really mean? And why should you be aware of the potential maximum effect it can have on your business?

According to Rochelle Reiter, agency principal at Orange Label Art + Advertising, “It is the coordination and integration of all of a company’s advertising and marketing communications into a cohesive plan that maximizes the impact on customers and prospects. An integrated plan is designed to make all aspects of marketing communications (e.g., advertising, sales, marketing, PR and online) work together as a unified and integrated force, rather than allowing each component to function independently.”

Wes Phillips, also an agency principal at Orange Label Art + Advertising, noted in a recent online article that, “It is important that a company’s leaders understand and comprehend the goals and objectives of an integrated campaign and are aligned on the strategy and messaging.” He believes that the support of management, sufficient time, and budget resources are important to the perception of the strategy as a priority.

But what does this all mean to the entrepreneur? [Read more...]
