Do People Really Make Six Figures Online in a Year – Are Rags to Riches Stories Still Possible Even in Today’s Market?

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO/Director of PMR/CMBS Global

I am bombarded daily with emails telling of how other people make six figures in a single year while working online -“Rags to Riches” stories, the results of an entrepreneurial spirit and the perfecting of marketing skills etc. But…are these stories really true? Is it possible to make six figures a year marketing online even in today’s market?

I wanted to take a closer look.

It took very little effort to find all kinds of articles with the words “Earn Six Figures”. Some of the page titles also included “working from home”, “as a freelance writer”, “from Internet Marketing” …you get the picture. But the one thing that they all seem to purport is the idea of a system or program for purchase. So, is it only possible to make good money if you are the one selling the program or the system? [One article actually offered “3 legit online jobs” leading me to wonder about the legitimacy of all the many others being promoted as ways to earn a living online.] [Read more...]

How To Avoid The Roller Coaster Effect, Survive The Ups and Downs and Enjoy The Ride!

By Charlotte L. Hanna CMO & Director of PMR / CMBS Global

The ups and downs of the roller coaster rideI love a GREAT roller coaster! I can’t do the spinning rides at theme parks, but I really enjoy the roller coasters and the bigger the ‘ups and downs’ – the better. Whether it’s the thrill, the love of speed or the powerful feeling of conquering fear – whatever the reason – people love roller coasters, making them the world's most popular amusement park ride. And while they may make for an exciting day at the park, roller coaster rides in business are less than amusing and in fact, can be cause for failure.

Surviving The Ups and Downs

Every business goes through its ups and downs. Experiencing some highs and some lows are part of the forecast when it comes to the climate of any business today, but this can be particularly true for the small business owner. The little guys often find themselves waiting a long time to enjoy the ride of a consistently thriving business, eating an awful lot of dust, receiving little or no respect, getting pushed further and further toward the back of the line. Just as one must wait patiently in line to board any good roller coaster ride, being patient can also be key to surviving the ups and downs of small business ownership and like a great roller coaster experience, it will all be worthwhile, eventually. Unlike the line at the theme parks, in business, you can choose to simply maintain and hold your place in the line – or you can actually determine to advance to the front of that line. [Again, not recommended at theme parks!]

What The World Is Looking For – And Why It Could Be You!

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMO/CMBS GLOBAL

Have you ever wondered if what you do is really all that important?

Like many, you may have convinced yourself that what the world is looking for could NOT POSSIBLY be you! You have probably told yourself that no matter how much you know you could contribute – there is surely someone else who is naturally more worthy and better equipped for the task.

Have you had an idea, but lacked the confidence that others would also find it worthwhile? Do you often go to bed at night and think, “What if…?” yet, come morning, choose to no longer entertain the thought?

Maybe you are an artist who works in unusual mediums and you are wondering if there might be a market for your creations, or a writer who has been contemplating a new book, but wondering if there would be any real interest in your subject matter.

Are you someone who has spoken before audiences when asked, but have never ventured onstage outside your local area because you were unsure of your market? Maybe you are a businessman or businesswoman who makes it possible for others to reach their goals, never to pursue your own. [Read more...]

WHY GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE

Changing Your Stinkin’ Thinkin’

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMBS Global

Great minds tend to think alike because those considered to be great tend to have one thing in common…they have all faced adversity. They have survived a very difficult time, persevering to become the optimistic, problem-solving, motivated, person they are today.

Those we regard as mentors, achievers, experts, etc., have all paid a high price to be where they are and garner the accolades the world may lay at their feet. No one gains the trust of others or commands the respect of their peers without somehow earning it. But while true regard for one's knowledge and leadership cannot be bought – it does often come with a very high price tag attached.

The successful business owner, the successful coach, the successful investor, inventor, athlete, entertainer, or artist, has a very powerful story behind his or her personal success. Because of their similar stories of overcoming, of rising above, they think in similar ways and believe similar things to be true about life, choices, and perspective. They are survivors of what should have and could have killed their dreams and robbed them of a bright future.

“A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.” Excerpt from As A Man Thinketh, by James Allen, 1902. HOW OPTIMISTIC ARE YOU?

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMBS Global

Some days you’re up. Some days you are down. Some days you are barely surviving, and some days you feel totally alive, full of hope and promise. Some days are more than worth getting out of bed for, and there are those days when you know that getting out of bed was your FIRST mistake.

That’s life for most of us! No doubt about it, even those who profess a positive mind-set can have a miserably disappointing day once-in-a-while. It just happens…and usually when we least expect it.

Life is full of challenges. The reality of life is that there will always be disappointments. No one is guaranteed a smooth ride or trouble-free existence. So, how is it that some of us seem able to make the journey, the day-to-day living and doing business, look so easy and even downright enjoyable? [Read more...]

Why Nike Got It Right And How You Can, Too!

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMBS Global
I recently came across this inspirational quote from an unknown source: “You cannot plough a field by turning it over in your mind.” ~Author Unknown
So simple, but so true. Only thinking about doing a task will never get it accomplished. Yet, so often the best business ideas, concepts and plans are left abandoned in the fields of our minds. Nothing grows better than weeds in an unattended plot – and once those weeds have taken over it can be difficult to locate and retrieve that valuable thought once again.
What have you been considering over and over again in your mind? What is it that you have failed to act upon, or allowed to be abandoned due to daily distractions? What have you told yourself in the past about an idea that came to you in the middle of the night, that convinced you to turn your back on it come morning? Some of the best ideas may now be lost to you because of indecision and inaction, but they will come to someone else eventually.
Too often, it is only when we see that same idea or plan put into action by another that we are regretfully reminded of what we carelessly left to be choked out by the ‘weeds’ in the field of our own mind. It doesn’t have to be so! [Read more...]

ONE AMAZING EXAMPLE OF BEATING “BURNOUT”

by Charlotte L. Hanna CMBS Global

You are going along at full throttle and all of a sudden one day – it hits you. You feel the extreme exhaustion, the overwhelm, and you realize that you have finally hit the wall. You are in the throes of burnout.

Many of us simply go until we can no longer go. We don’t even consider that we are putting our health and well-being on the line, we just feel a commitment to our job, family, friends, community, country, or other passion – so, we just keep doing until something happens that causes us to realize that we are only human.

Burnout is a psychological term for the experience of long-term exhaustion and diminished interest.  According to Wikipedia, the term burnout in psychology was coined by Herbert Freudenberger in his 1974 Staff burnout, presumably based on the 1960 novel A Burnt-Out Case by Graham Greene.  Herbert Freudenberger, along with Gail North, found that there seems to be 12 phases related to the burnout process in individuals, including: [Read more...]

PERMISSION TO LAUNCH

by Charlotte L. Hanna

Are you one of those people who have great ideas, great talent or skill, maybe even a good amount of money to invest…but just cannot seem to bring yourself to do what you have alwaysPermission Granted dreamed of doing?

Are you looking for permission to launch a business or career?

Perhaps you have convinced yourself that what you have considered doing, whatever services or products you see yourself capable of creating and offering, that these are just not really all that special. Maybe you feel you have waited too long to act on your dreams, or you’ve shared your ideas with others, and after entertaining their personal concerns and doubts, have chosen to put your plans on hold.

In today’s economic climate, it’s wise to consider all sides of the coin before you begin investing. When contemplating the launch of a new business, product, or service – it would be foolish to charge ahead without giving all aspects of what you are about to do the proper consideration. But, you should never allow someone else’s fears and doubts to become your own. Weigh the advice of others and measure it against your own. What advice would you give someone in your shoes?

Here is some advice shared by well-known, successful entrepreneurs. [Read more...]

What To Do When The Heat Is On…

by Charlotte L. Hanna CCO CMBS Global

There comes a day when every business owner feels ‘The Heat’. It may be financial loss, a customer service issue, an internal ethics situation, or other pressing problem. Whatever ‘The Heat’ – everyone faces it at one time or another. Knowing what to do when the heat is on can prevent you from suffering a meltdown under the stress.

Melted Ice Cream TruckSome businesses are seasonal by the very nature of the business. Others go through a variety of seasons during their existence – some more painful than others. The goal of every small business owner is growth. But even growth can be painful at times.

Seasons of prosperity may or may not be as long-lived as those of financial distress, but even in prosperous times, things can go wrong and uncomfortable situations can arise.

There is absolutely no perfect business and no real perfect season in business. Why? Because business is first and foremost about the human element. And everyone knows that whenever we humans are involved, there is room for error, misjudgment, discomfort, and more.

Your business is a reflection of YOU. Like it or not, as the owner of a business, your humanness and that of those you put in positions of authority, will be exposed from time-to-time. No one is perfect, and therefore no business can be perfect. If perfection is what you strive for in business, here is some information that may surprise you.

Perfection should never be your goal. [Read more...]

This Business Is For The Birds!

by Charlotte L. Hanna, CCO CMBS GLOBAL

The other day, I was busily typing away at my computer when the front doorbell rang. My young neighbor boy was anxious to tell me that our dog had chased a baby robin into our backyard pond. He thought I would want to know.

I was busy, and I admit that I really didn’t want to know because now I felt obligated to deal with the situation. I had better things to do. But, I went to call the dog into the house and figured the neighbor boy would probably be watching to see if I would act on his news.

When I found the baby bird, it was unmoving atop the chilly water, looking right at me with huge, terrified eyes. I could not ignore its dilemma and impending doom. Scooping it up, I could only hope that I was not too late, as it appeared to be fading fast. I gently began rubbing its tiny breast. I imagined that I was doing some type of bird CPR. Its little beak opened wide, as though it was trying to take in air. I wondered if its tiny lungs were already too full of water. I really had no idea what to do for this bird. In only a minute or two, the beak ceased to open and the little eyes closed. [Read more...]
